About Us The Portsmouth Garden Club was founded on April 22, 1931. The first president was Mrs. Harold M. Smith. Mission Statement: The mission of the Portsmouth Garden Club is to promote all phases of gardening, to practice and encourage the conservation of our natural resources, to foster educational goals and to initiate projects which provide cooperative efforts to increase and protect the beauty and history of the Portsmouth area.   "We name the lilac as the flower      of our loved Granite State   to bloom forever on our scroll      to grace our door and gate."             Emma J.
